Dr Ian McKeown, Vice President of Athlete Performance and Wellness, at the Philadelphia Flyers, always wants to make sure his players feel more prepared than anyone else.
“We’re covering all bases with them and this is a great tangible example of us giving each individual exactly what they need.”
By using 3D scanned compression, each player receives custom fitted garments which apply accurate compression for proven benefits. Dr McKeown emphasises how important this is to professional athletes.
“In professional sport, players are all shapes and sizes, they don’t fit standard sized garments. The players love the custom fit of CAPE, it takes our level of care and player recovery to the next level”
Dr McKeown first started using CAPE 3D scanned compression three years ago whilst working with Port Adelaide FC in the Australian Football League (AFL), the aim was to accelerate recovery in between gruelling matches, but Dr McKeown underestimated how much the players would love it.
“The boys really liked it from the first time that they wore them, a lot of them wouldn’t take them off. The boys were wearing them as they travelled to the game and on the way back too. Anything that they felt they could do to make themselves step off the plane in a better position they were really happy to do.
“The biggest thing for them is managing swelling and they are great for that.
“They feel better when the garments are worn, whether it’s immediately or whether it’s afterwards. If we weren’t getting that benefit, that compliance wouldn’t be as high as it is, so I read a fair amount into that.
“They’re not getting as sore as they typically would have, they are in a much better position and their readiness to train is higher because of the support environment we put around them, which includes the CAPE products to a high degree.”
